SC takes notice of Young Doctor’s strike in Lahore

Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken notice of the strike being observed by Young Doctors Association (YDA) in Lahore against the detention of senior doctors of Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) in the aftermath of spurious drug scandal.
According to media reports the SC had ordered Chief Secretary Punjab to submit the names and designations of doctors who were on strike.
The SC further ordered Advocate General Punjab and health secretary of Punjab to appear before the court tomorrow Friday. The SC in its Jan 30, judgment ordered Young doctors to refrain from going to strike.
Reacting over the SC notice, the YDA said they respect orders of courts but only doctors were arrested by the Punjab government while no action had been taken against the pharmaceutical companies.
They further said that the Supreme Court should order Punjab government to stop illegal detention of senior doctors before the issuance of investigation report.
The Punjab government arrested senior doctors of the PIC over the fake medicines case which had caused deaths of more than 100 people.
