Mervyn Westfield jailed for four month over spot-fixing charges

London: A former Essex county cricketer Mervyn Westfield has been sentenced to four months in prison after confessing a spot-fixing charge.
Former Essex bowler was jailed Friday after admitting taking $9,200 to intentionally concede runs during a 40 overs match against Durhan in 2009.
Westfield’s attorney, Mark Milliken-Smith has said that his client was targeted by former teammate Danish Kaneria, a former Pakistan test player.
He is the first cricketer in England to be prosecuted for spot-fixing. He has also received an interim suspension order from the England and Wales Cricket Board.
